Thinking about leaving Deviantart....
Daily NeedsThis site just isn't what it used to be when I signed up. When I signed up, the artistic nudes were actually artistic. Over the years I have accepted the argument that just because someone can't take a good artistic nude photo, doesn't make it porn. It doesn't make sense to hold the artistic nudes on this site to a higher standard of art than every other genre! But the fact that so many rules have been deleted that allows softcore porn to be uploaded... The fact that even when pictures obviously break the policies here, they are ignored (and yes, some of these pictures are deemed to break policy once reported enough times. So it isn't even a matter of prudes reporting it because they are prudes. It is DA ignoring it until enough people complain!).
The fact tracing is allowed, and little recourse to complain! Even when so many members of the community were upset and even offered a vote on solutions, their cries were ignored! Because banning tracing would damage subscription sales. Few people that don't like tracing will leave the site. But the people that trace would leave the site if it weren't allowed. Not to mention the number of artists that are banned and have their ORIGINAL art take down when the ART THIEF reports the original!
The fact every freakin' time since I have been a member of the site, the admins NEVER consult the community before making drastic changes to policies or pages. It seems like the admins just don't care if the members of the community (the people freakin' paying the bills for this site!) are happy AT ALL. What kind of company just tells its customer to stop being whining pricks? Even when the vast majority of the complainers are being perfectly respectful? How is this even remotely acceptable?
I dunno. A part of me wants to stay for no other reason than I like the forums here. And that maybe someday I will upload my anime art. But another part of me really just wants to find another art site where at least they can be UPFRONT with whether porn can be submitted or not. It's not even the porn that even bothers me, so much as the fact the site's rules say it shouldn't be here. So why is it here? Why bother having the rules in the first place? I just want to know what I can expect from an artsite when I sign up. And DA just doesn't leave up to what it says it will do! Or it just changes the rules to make it easier to do... Well, I'm not even sure what the admins do anymore. They aren't deleting porn. They aren't deleting doll bases made by other artists. Or screenshots of games. Or tracing. So what are they doing?
I dunno. I have to go write an exam now. So I'll be back to rant a bit more in a bit!

You are wrong.
There are some very good comic style artists on here, some signed some not. Their stuff is always worth looking at IMO. Some very good photographers too.
I think of it kind of like looking at a hillside, yeah lots of dirt and rocks. Things very common, maybe some things offensive, but if you look enough you might find something unique and interesting. Makes the trip to the hill worth it.
About rules, and this is a wider perspective I take on this : We live in the age of selective enforcement. The rules/laws are only applied when it works for the people in charge (or they wish to destroy someone with rules that are never enforced). Rule of law anymore is a myth, and the idea that an organization will do what they say and do it fairly with an even and predictable hand, even when exercising discretion is apparently too much to ask. Yeah still makes me angry, but, not much I can do about it at this point. People like us that don't like it are the vast minority compared to those that use it to evade the rules and be offensive deleterious pukes.

Unless dA "systems" ain't affecting me directly in negative way, I'm ok with it.
In short: Not site, but me, and people that are significant for me on the site.
As for other sites, I've looked at bunch of them, there's any that would be perfect. Every has its pros, and cons, and I know that I won't find any that will suit me perfectly in 100%.

Which is kinda depressing at times. I don't know. Maybe I'm too idealistic. But I just don't see why people who never follow the rules get to make it so hard to find those gems.
I have mostly given up on reporting things, too. It's just too annoying to even bother reporting something that won't get deleted. Because they would rather have subscribers than enforce the rules here.
Some people, believe that what they do is important, note worthy, excellent, good, or somehow otherwise must be shared put on a pedestal and then praised. Even if it is something very pedestrian and/or crude. They see the world as revolving around them. I think it's another reason why it seems that some people on this site flip out when negative comments are left, or even constructive "here's how you can do this better" comments (flip side though is some people leave comments of those types when they have no business doing so. Like an unskilled bum on the street telling the accomplished master how to execute their art of choice)
Cultural aspects aren't helping much either as people seem to have lost their humility, sense of embarrassment, sense of place, and sense of accomplishment. IMO there are things that need not be shared. Positives and negatives to all that, but that's true of just about everything.
I try to not be depressed about it. It just is. What we see here is a symptom that exists as a problem in the world as a whole. Adapt and overcome, don't let the jerks wreck what good stuff is around for you.
